Almost weekly in any Mess anywhere in the World someone is leaving, whether it be a posting, promotion, transfer or leaving the Military. Often as an afterthought, someone is tasked to find a suitable presentation item, to give to the poor unfortunate. As this is often short notice, this usually involves a trip to the local trophy shop in Town returning with a cheap and nasty pewter tankard, with a handle in the shape of a nude woman, with the name etc. of the unlucky recipient engraved on the side. Or just as bad a quick trip down to the PRI shop where pretty much all that is on offer is a mass produced pre printed regimental plaque, an assortment of regimental erasers, or another "T" Shirt.

The presentation time arrives and after a few swift one's at the bar, the time comes to say thanks to the person leaving,

"Thanks for all the time that you have spent with us, your input has been invaluable, and will be sorely missed, as a small token of our appreciation we have all clubbed together and here is your tankard/plaque/Tshirt/bag of money, I wish you all the luck for the future and hope whenever you you have a spare moment you will look fondly at this and remember your time with us."
