Formed on 1st September 1964 from the amalgamation of the 1st East Anglian Regiment (Royal Norfolk and Suffolk)(9th and 12th Foot), 2nd East Anglian Regiment (Duchess of Gloucester's Own Royal Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire)(10th, 48th and 58th Foot), 3rd East Anglian Regiment (16th, 44th and 56th Foot) and The Royal Leicestershire Regiment (17th Foot).

[245]Royal Norfolk Regiment (9th)
Formed in 1685 as Cornwell's Regiment, became the 9th Regiment of Foot in 1751, became the Royal Norfolk Regiment in 1935.

[246] Royal Lincolnshire Regiment (10th)
One of the Regiments early V.C.'s was won by Private Denis Dempsey during the Indian mutiny who carried off a young officer who had been badly wounded. The rescue was made in the face of murderous fire from the mutineers.

[247] Suffolk Regiment (12th)
The Suffolk Regiment has the "Castle and Key of Gibraltar" as the centrepiece of the badge, this was granted in honour of their service in the defence of the Rock from 1779 to 1783.
