Waterloo Day (June 18th) is celebrated in the Regiment to commerate the charge of the Union Brigade, and the subsequent capture of a French Eagle by Sgt Ewart, this is reflected on the Regimental badge.

1st (King's) Dragoon Guards

This is the badge worn from 1915, as the previous badge was the Arms of the Emperor Francis Joseph I of Austria, who was the colonel in Chief of the Regiment from 1896 to 1914. In 1937 a new badge was adopted in brass, which during WWII changed to white metal, this badge stayed the same when the 1st QDG was formed in 1959.
