[15] 16th/5th Queen's Royal Lancers

After the Battle of Aliwal (28th January 1848, 1st Sikh War) it was noticed that the lance-pennons had become corrugated with dried blood and as a result of this the Regiment adopted the practice of flying crimped pennons as a tribute to those that had fallen.

[223] 16th The Queen's Lancers

The 16th were raised as Light Dragoons in 1759 and their high efficiency gained them the approbation of King George III, who granted them the title of "The Queen's". They were converted to Lancers in 1816.

[224] 5th Royal Irish Lancers

Originally raised in 1689 as Wynne's Regiment of Enniskillen Dragoons. The motto of the Order of St Patrick is on the badge "Quis Separabit" (Who shall seperate us).
