Royal Tank Regiment

[17] The Royal Tank Regiment

Formed in 1916 as the Heavy Section of the Machine Gun Corps, they became the Tank Corps in 1917, and The Royal Tank Regiment in 1939 on formation of The Armoured Corps.

My Grandfather Sgt. Donald.N.Steele was out on manoeuvres with his tank crew in England. He was looking out navigating when the accident happened. The tank toppled over and my grandfather fell out whilst the tank rolled over crushing his arm. All my Grandfather wanted to do was go to Africa with his crew, instead he had to remain in England in the Home Guard.

This badge is in brass, In 1924 a new badge was struck with the motto "Fear Naught" upon, although it was decided that the tank appeared to be going backwards, so shortly afterwards it was changed to face forward.
