Raised in January 1941 to provide deep recce for Infantry Divisions, a total of 20 regiments saw active service and the corps was disbanded in 1946.

[440] The Machine Gun Corps

Formed on 22nd October 1915, from the Motor Machine Gun Service, a Heavy Branch was formed in July 1916 as a cover name for the new tank arm, later to become the Tank Corps in 1917. Disbanded in 1922.
