Formed in 1968 from the amalgamation of the Somerset and Cornwall Light Infantry, the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, the King's Shropshire Light Infantry and the Durham Light Infantry. The badge is worn with a red felt backing in the centre (DCLI).

The badge is surmounted by the title "Jellalabad" awarded to the 13th Foot in 1842 in recognition of the epic defence of Jellalabad on the North West Frontier of India.

The badge is normally worn with a red felt insert (not supplied), in memory of the daring attack on the American camp at Brandywine 1777.
