Formed in 1969 from the amalgamation of The South Wales Borderers and The Welch Regiment.

[267] The South Wales Borderers (24th)

The 24th Foot are famous for the heroic stand at Rorkes Drift Mission Station, Natal Province in 1879 when six Victoria Crosses were won by members of the Regiment the most ever awarded for a single engagement to one Regiment.

Welch Regiment

[268] The Welch Regiment (41st/69th)

During the Crimean War the 41st Foot started the custom of going on parade with a Regimental Goat, they were followed by the 69th Foot in 1873, this tradition is still carried on in the Royal Regiment of Wales.
