[54] The Staffordshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's)

(38th, 64th, 80th, 98th)

Formed in 1959 from the amalgamation of the South Staffordshire Regiment and the North Staffordshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's), a buff holland backing is worn behind the knot to commemorate the 57 years of continuous service by the 38th Foot (South Staffs) between 1707 and 1764, this is to represent the sacking used by soldiers to repair their neglected uniforms.

[271] The South Staffordshire Regiment (38th/80th)

The South Staffordshire Regiment was present at the airborne assault on Arnhem in 1944. During this action Lance Sergeant John Baskeyfield won a posthumous Victoria Cross. The permission to wear the 'Holland' patch behind the badge was granted in 1935, by King George V.

Ypres Day is the former Regimental Day of the North Staffs to commemorate the successful attack by the 1st Bn on the first day of the Third Battle of Ypres (WWI).
