Formed in 1966 from the amalgamation of the Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment, the Queen's Own Buffs, the Royal Sussex Regiment and the Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge's Own).

Queen's West Surrey Regiment

Raised in September 1661 by Henry Mordaunt, Earl of Peterborough, as part of the Tangier Garrison and styled the Tangier Regiment, became the Queen's Regiment in 1684.

The Dragon as a badge was used by the Netherlands and it was also a supporter to the Arms of Queen Elizabeth I, and was granted to the Buffs by Queen Anne in 1707.

The East Surreys were raised as a Regiment of marines in 1702.
