The white feather worn by the Sussex Regiment is called the 'Roussillon Plume,' and was taken from the French Regiment of Royal Roussillon at the Battle of Quebec in 1759.

[240] The Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge's Own) (57th/77th)
The nickname of the Middlesex Regiment is the 'Die hards' this stems back to Battle of Albuhera in the Peninsular War, when the severely wounded Colonel of the Regiment refused to be carried to the rear and shouted 'Die hard, my men die hard.'
