1859 1st London Rifle Volunteer Corps raised, 1881 became a volunteer battalion of the King's Royal Rifle Corps. 1908 Became 5th (City of London) Bn. The London Regiment (London Rifle Brigade). 1937 became The London Rifle Brigade,The Rifle Brigade.

Raised in 1803 as the Duke of Cumberland's Sharpshooters. The Queen Victorias Rifles were part of 30th Infantry Brigade along with the 2nd Bn. The King's Royal Rifle Corps and the 1st Bn. The Rifle Brigade, when they landed at Calais on 23rd May 1940, the task to defend Calais and prevent German armour from interfering in the evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force from Dunkirk. The force held on for three days before being overwhelmed, tying up at least two armoured divisions and enabling the port of Dunkirk to be kept open for the evacuation.
