1st or The Royal Regiment  THE QUILTED SHAKO 1861 - 1869
24th (2nd Warwickshire) Regiment

The quilted shako was adopted in 1861, and replaced the French pattern shako. It was superceded itself by the last pattern shako in 1869.

The badge is a plain gilt eight pointed star, the topmost point displaced by a crown. On the star was the order of the Garter but the motto was not pierced as in the French pattern: In the centre the regimental number in stencilled. The size of the badge is 31/4 inches deep by 2 3/4 inches wide.
